This online, interactive curriculum will provide continuing education (CME/CE) for primary care providers (PCPs) to support their competence and confidence in treating patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Small-group workshops will utilize novel collaborative-education methodologies, facilitate peer-to-peer learning, and promote sharing of strategies for overcoming challenges inherent to adoption of new clinical practices.
This introductory module will help you to evaluate your current knowledge of the HCV care continuum in the primary care setting and your confidence in providing these services.
This introductory module provides a foundation for new treaters’ application of CDC guidelines for universal HCV screening and risk-based HCV testing and their use of AASLD/IDSA simplified HCV-treatment guidelines.
This case-based module introduces Jackie, a young woman with recently diagnosed chronic HCV infection. Learners will select pretreatment lab tests, review harm reduction and patient-centered–support principles, and determine appropriate treatment and monitoring for this patient.
This case-based module introduces Ronald, a man living with HIV/HCV coinfection. Learners will select pretreatment lab tests, evaluate for advanced liver fibrosis, assess treatment readiness, and consider HCV acquisition/reinfection risks among men who have sex with men (MSM).
This case-based module introduces Glenda, an older woman with chronic HCV and cirrhosis. Learners will review her complex presentation, consider nonspecialist roles in the comanagement of patients referred for specialty care, and gain a perspective on the older patient with HCV.
This final module will help you to reassess your current knowledge of the HCV care continuum in the primary care setting, your confidence in providing these services, and your readiness to implement practice changes.
Please join me for a brief kick-off where you'll have a chance to greet other group members and discuss our collective goals and priorities for the next few weeks. I’m really looking forward to seeing you.
Live Group Discussion 1 introduces participants to the Gather-ed group-learning processes, provides an opportunity to share current levels of engagement in HCV care, and initiates individual-task selection. Remaining time will be spent exploring reluctance to treat HCV in the primary care setting.
Live Group Discussion 2 will facilitate stepwise application of the AASLD/IDSA simplified HCV guidelines to the group's shared case (Victor). Input based on participants' individual tasks will bring real-world considerations to the group's collaborative clinical decision-making.
Discussion 3 addresses real-world barriers to effective HCV services at the systems, provider, and patient levels. Discussion will draw upon the participants' and mentor's own experiences. Special emphasis will be placed on understanding the patient perspective.
Provide comprehensive HCV care for Victor, addressing harm-reduction concerns and support needs across the pretreatment-to-postcure continuum.
Thank you for your interest. Currently, the curriculum is closed for enrollment but we encourage you to keep an eye out for future opportunities or alternative programs that might align with your educational goals.
